Blue Ice

From his icy prison, Dal felt the oppression of the orb digging into his soul. It wanted to master him more than anything at the moment, and little by little, it was wearing him down.

The necklace around Barog's neck had reshaped itself, withdrawing the black lace chain back into the orb, falling to a frozen pedestal that had risen from the floor. Dal had attacked Barog at that moment, with fire and the magic he carried born of the Bonding that would normally have crushed the life out of his opponent. But his fire was smothered with the combined frost of the dragons surrounding him, and a dark wall was blocking him from contacting Tiquana, stifling the power of the Bonding. Barog had been free to depart the Hold for Salluit, and Tiquana.

Dal was sealed away behind bars of ice, under a mental barrage from the orb. He resisted with every bit of will power he had, withdrawing into a meditative state, hoping to find refuge from within. But the voice of the orb was there as well, urging him to join with it, to feed its power, to revel in the darkness. To resist, would mean the death of Tiquana, to see him torn limb from limb.

Dal looked deep into the recesses of his soul, to find that piece of Tiquana, and Alignak, that was a part of him in the Bonding. He knew it was there, he sensed it beyond the wall of darkness.

'Bond with me, and together we will be unstoppable. You will live forever.'

"Why?" he asked aloud.

He was met with silence, and a sense of confusion.

"Why do you need me, if you are all powerful?"

'You shall be my vessel. You are Mar, most respected and feared of the ice dragons. You will carry me forward to conquer the world.'

"Why?" Dal pressed, sensing more confusion from the orb. "Why do you wish to conquer the world? To what end?"

'With every act of darkness you perform in my service, you will feed me, so that one day I will be restored enough to leave this plane, the same way I found it. In darkness.'
